Consular Services

1. Attestation Execution of Power of Attorney (PoA)/ Affidavit for Civil/Property/Financial matters
For execution of the PoA / Affidavit (s) relating to civil /Property/ Financial matters, applicants/executants are required to visit the Consulate in person and have to sign the PoA/ Affidavit (s) before the Consular Officer. PoA/Affidavit (s) relating to civil matters are attested by the Consulate only if these are to be produced before authorities in INDIA. PoA/Affidavit (s) can be executed either on a plain paper or a stamp paper as per the applicant’s requirement or as advised by the applicant’s lawyer.

For execution of Power of Attorney/Other Services applicant has to apply in person at the Consulate and sign the documents before the Consular Officer.

Requirements:

  1. Dully filled Miscellaneous Application form with one recent passport size photograph affixed.

  2. In case of Indian Passport Holders: Valid passport in original and one set of self-attested copy of first two and last two pages of the passport and the page (s) containing passport officer's observation(s) (if any).

  3. In case of Other Passport Holders: Valid passport in original and one set of self-attested copy of the passport page(s) containing personal particulars of the passport holder.

  4. Proof of Residence: Any of the following self-attested documents viz. copy of utility bill (telephone bill/ electricity bill / gas bill/water bill or Council Tax bill) or Driving License or lease deed of residence etc. where the applicant’s UK address is clearly mentioned, should be provided.

  5. Visa Status: Self-attested copy of passport page with valid visa / Valid British Residence Permit Card (BRP card) showing the visa status should be enclosed.

  6. Power of Attorney Document: Recently drafted Power of Attorney (PoA) can either be on a plain paper or stamp paper as per your requirement or as advised by your lawyer and one set of copy (Copies) needs to be signed by the applicant (s) before the Consular Officer. Executant(s) of PoA are also required to affix one passport size photograph on the last page / at the end of the PoA near the place for his/her signature as an executant(s) and then make a photo copy of the PoA for retention by the High Commission.

  7. Format of the PoA:
    The contents of the PoA document may be printed under standard 1 inch margins (on all four sides of the page); header and footer may not contain essential text beyond page numbers and minor detailing; for the attestation process the last sheet of the PoA document must reserve atleast half of that sheet for the Consulate’s stampage and signatures. Documents found in non-compliance with these guidelines will be returned for corrections prior to any action by the Consular Section.

  8. Witnesses: PoA needs to be witnessed and signed in person before the Consular Officer by two UK residents known to the executants(s). Names, UK address and valid passport particulars such as passport number, date of issue and place of issue needs to be clearly mentioned in the PoA. Witnesses need to produce their original passports at the time of signing of the PoA and one set of self-attested copy of the passport pages containing personal particulars of the witnesses need to be submitted along with the PoA. The witnesses to the PoA should not be amongst the beneficiaries of the PoA.
    If both or any of the witnesses cannot come in person, one copy of witness’s/witnesses’ passport page (s) containing personal particulars of the witness/witnesses duly notarised by the notary public (not by solicitor or chartered accountant or post office) and PoA duly signed before Notary Public by the Executant(s) and Witness/ Witnesses need to be submitted.

  9. Affidavit: In the case of Affidavit(s), no witnesses are required. However, other procedural and documentation requirements as prescribed above would be required to be completed.

  10. Power of Attorney/ Affidavit for Court cases pending in India - Applicants have to provide a copy of Court case(s) to be lodged or pending against the executant/s.

  11. Fee: £18.00 Cash (payable in cash only). No Credit or Debit Card or Personal Cheque will be accepted. Please note that the fee is for each signature and stamp of the Consular Officer.

  12. A duplicate set of the application and all supporting documents as detailed above, may also be attached for Consulate’s record.

  13. Processing Time: Normally, same day. In case, the applicant can’t wait/stay during processing time, a self addressed envelope needs to be attached with the application so that the attested document can be dispatched to his/her address.

Please Note: The above are the general mandatory requirements. The applicant may be advised to submit some more documents, after scrutiny of the application and documents at the Consular Section, on a case-to-case basis.

CHECKLIST/ORDER OF DOCUMENTS FOR POWER OF ATTORNEY

  2. Original and one copy of executants(s) applicant/s Valid passport/s (Copy must be self-attested) if Indian Passport holder, copies of first two pages and last two pages duly self-attested.

  3. Self-attested copy of passport page with valid visa / Valid British Residence Permit Card (BRP card) showing the visa status should be enclosed.

  4. Original and one copy executant’s /applicant’s proof of address.

  5. Original and one copy of two witnesses’ Valid passports with valid visa copies (BRP card) and copies of their proof of address.Original and one copy of Power of Attorney with one passport size photograph pasted on the last page of PoA near the place of executants’ signature. Please keep original PoA separate.

  6. The application and all supporting documents are to be submitted in duplicate (One with original POA alongwith above mentioned documents and one set of Xerox copies).

  7. All photocopies must be self-attested by the respective person.

2. Execution of Will/Gift Deed

For execution of Will/Gift Deed, applicant has to apply in person to the Consulate and sign the Will/Gift Deed before the Consular Officer. A Will/ Gift Deed can be executed at the Consulate only if the same is to be produced in INDIA.

Requirements

  3. If Applicant is Indian Passport holder, copy of first two pages and last two pages of the Passport duly self-attested.

  4. Original and one copy of proof of address of the applicant.

  5. Original and one copy of two witness’s valid passports with copy of their address proof.

  6. Original and one copy of Will/Gift Deed with one passport size photograph pasted on the last page of Will/Gift Deed near the place of executants’ signature. Please keep original Will/Gift Deed separate.

  7. Two Passport size photographs.

  8. The application and all supporting documents are to be submitted in duplicate (One with original Will/Gift deed along with above mentioned documents and one set of Xerox copies).

  9. The application and all supporting documents are to be submitted in duplicate (One with original Will/Gift deed alongwith above mentioned documents and one set of Xerox copies)

  10. All photo copies must be self-attested by the respective person.

3. Life certificate for pension purpose or for any other purpose

An individual who requires a Life Certificate for the purpose of drawing pension in India (or if an individual is required to produce Life Certificate before authorities in India for any other purpose) may apply for this service.

(B) Documents Required:

b) Dully filled Miscellaneous Application form with one recent passport size photograph (preferably 2”X2”) affixed. Only recent photographs of the applicant should be used wherever necessary. c) In case of Indian Passport Holders: Valid passport in original and one set of self-attested copy of first two and last two pages of the passport and the page (s) containing passport officer's observation(s) (if any).

d) In case of Other Passport Holders: Valid passport in original and one set of self-attested copy of the passport page(s) containing personal particulars of the passport holder.

e) Address Proof: Any of the following original and self-attested documents viz. copy of utility bill (telephone / electricity / gas / water / Council Tax bill) or Driving License or lease deed of residence etc. where the applicant’s UK address is clearly mentioned, should be provided. Bank/credit card/mobile phone statements are not accepted as residence proof.

f) Visa Status: Self-attested copy of current valid UK eVisa which shows online record of individual’s immigration status in the UK. Applicant must be UK resident.

g) Original Pension Book plus a photocopy should be provided, if the Life Certificate is required for pension purpose.
a) For Other than pension purpose: copy of the concerned document to be submitted duly self-attested. e.g., if it is for Power of Attorney (PoA)/LIC Policy, need to submit copy of PoA/LIC Policy or other document/s.

h) Fee: Pension purpose: Gratis (Only £2.00 will be charged on account of Consular Surcharge)

The fees will be accepted in CASH only, Credit/Debit card or other banking instrument will NOT be accepted. Other than pension purpose: £18.00 (Pounds Eighteen Only). The fees will be accepted in CASH only, Credit/Debit card or other banking instrument will NOT be accepted

i) Processing Time: Normally, same day, however, if unforeseen technical reasons occur, services can be delayed till those problems are resolved.

j) ONLY ONE COPY OF LIFE CERTIFICATE WILL BE ISSUED.
